Commonly Affected Areas Due To Osteoarthritis

Pain in the joints makes it difficult to enjoy a normal life. Every time you walk, run or climb up and down the stairs, a sharp pain always accompanies it. With age, the tissues and muscles in the joints weaken and lose its flexibility. Osteoarthritis is marked by degeneration of joint cartilage and the underlying bones. It results in pain and stiffness in the joints, especially in the hip, knee, and the joints of the thumb. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common forms of arthritis that affect people belonging to the middle age group. By maintaining a healthy weight and staying active, it is possible to slow down the progression of osteoarthritis and improve joint function.

Common symptoms of Osteoarthritis

    • Any activity like walking or bending is always accompanied by pain.
    • When applied pressure, joints become tender.
    • Joints are always stiff after any activity.
    • The joints are not as flexible as they used to be.
    • The movement of the joints is always accompanied by a grating sound.

Where does Osteoarthritis affect the most?

Osteoarthritis can affect any joint but it usually affects those joints that had experienced repetitive stress or injury. Following are the joints most commonly affected by osteoarthritis:
  • Knee- it is the common lower-limb joint that is affected by osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis in the knee can cause severe pain while walking, running, and climbing the stairs. If not treated, this can lead to the disability of the knees.
